March 2009 Waagacusub Media
Four aid workers, three of them foreigners have been
kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Bakol province of
southern Somalia on Sunday.
Reports say that the
gunmen raided the airstrip and seized the relief workers
as they were preparing to take airplane from there near
Wajid, 340km southwest of the Somalia capital Mogadishu.
It is not yet clear the nationalities of the kidnapped
three aid workers and why they were abducted as the area
controlled by the Islamist hardliners Al-Shabab.
On Saturday, gunmen attacked the United Nations
headquarter in Mogadishu where they had clashed with the
security staff. reports confirmed that one of the local
UN staff has been slightly wounded in the confrontation.
Somalia, which had been stateless for nearly two
decades, has recently been a place where many aid
workers and journalists killed or kidnapped.
