Somalia:Hawiye
clan reject government’s call for outside troops.
Mogadishu 22
March 2009 Waagacusub Media
Somalia’s Hawiye clan elders strongly opposed on
Sunday the request by the country’s foreign minister in
which he demanded the deployment of additional foreign
troops in Somalia.
Ahmed Dirie Ali, spokesman for the Hawiye
Traditional Council, said the foreign minister’s call
for outside troops might cause another conflict and
total collapse to the reconciliation process.
He appealed to the FM to back off his call for outside
forces describing it as unthinkable matter.
Ali said the government’s call for outside troops might
deter the efforts aimed to unify the insurgents and
government soldiers.
The government’s demand for additional foreign troops
brought greater anger in the capital as the country’s
Uluma Council earlier called for the withdrawal of the
current African Union troops from Somalia within four
months.
