Emergency in parts of the State after a tropical cyclone storm
wreaked death and destruction across its path along the vast coast of
Puntland State of Somalia.

The storm made landfall on Saturday morning (Nov. 9, 2013) in the vast
coastal area of Puntland, particularly between Eyl, Beyla, Dangorayo,
and Hafun Districts (Garduush area) along the eastern coast, to Alula
District at the tip of the Horn of Africa, along the northeastern
coast of Puntland. The storm brought high wind speeds and heavy
torrential rains, causing flash floods and cutting off road access to
the coastal areas. Weather forecasts indicate that the storm pattern
is expected to expand further inland and continue up to Wednesday.

The president of the Federal Government of Somalia H.E. Mr. Hassan
Sheikh Mohamud sent his personal condolences to those affected by the
devastating tropical cyclone that has hit Somalia.

Obviously, the new climatic tears for cyclone comes after when the UN
Climate Change Conference in Warsaw began yesterday with calls for
governments to harness the strong groundswell of action on climate
change across all levels of government, business and society and make
real progress towards a successful, global climate change agreement in
2015.

The UN Climate Change Conference in Warsaw (11 to 22 November) is
currently being attended by government delegates, representatives from
business and industry, environmental organizations, research
institutions and the media. More than 100 Heads of State and
Government and Ministers are scheduled to attend the high-level
segment of the meeting, which begins on 19 November and ends with a
decision-making plenary on 22 November but Somalia authorities are
absent and not aware of much of these imperative conferences in order
to represent their vulnerable nation and society by the climate
change.
