The Ministry stated that the action constitutes unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign United Nations Member State and directly contravenes the fundamental principles of international law, including respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference.
Somalia reaffirmed that Hargeisa forms an inalienable part of the country’s internationally recognized territory. It stressed that no foreign government or official has the legal authority to conduct diplomatic, political, or official engagements within Somali territory without prior authorization from Mogadishu.
The statement further underscored that such actions are inconsistent with the Charter of the United Nations, the Constitutive Act of the African Union, and established international norms governing relations among sovereign states.
Somalia called upon Israel to immediately cease all actions that undermine Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity and to fully respect its obligations under international law. In addition, the government urged the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and all international partners to reaffirm, in clear and unequivocal terms, their principled support for Somalia’s sovereignty and internationally recognized borders.
While reiterating its firm commitment to peaceful international engagement and constructive diplomacy, Somalia also made clear that it reserves the right to take all appropriate diplomatic and legal measures, in accordance with international law, to safeguard its national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
