The group's Friday raid on Maka al-Mukarama Hotel in Mogadishu exposed a lot of murky issues and how clan politics continued to dominate the militant's terror activities in Somalia.
Officials of National Intelligence and security Agency (NISA) involved in the Friday raid in which 40 people were killed, including diplomats and some VIPs personnel.Though, many bodies were hidden by the authority.
According to sources, the raid was behind intelligence officials amid to either degrade or destroy the Hotel Manager,Gurey Haji Hassan.
NISA officials contacted businessmen to put direct Al-Shabaab member to them. A nephew of the hotel Manager and Shabaab member, Nuradin Ali Ospito,was their best choice.
Ospito demanded his uncle Gurey to give alms to the Al-Shabaab since he also "gives taxes to the apostates" on phone. But Gurey, who was naive rejected to respond the demands of his nephew, according to a source familiar with the case.
Ospito shared the news between him and his uncle with businessmen, the Intelligence Officials , and Minister of the security Mr.Abdirisak. He was told to arrange his men to conduct the raid against the hotel.They also gave him an empty promise that they would save him from any harm after the raid.
What fallowed next, Gunmen wearing the new Somali Uniform raided the Hotel after a car bomb had been exploded at the hotel's entrance at 5 P.M.
Somali Special forces known as Gaashaan (Sheild) arrived the hotel very late around 6 PM because they gave a chance for the raiders since it was a conspiracy fact and the siege ended at 8 P.M after Gashaan forces retook the hotel.
Ospito was not saved as he was promised and his aunt lost an arm in the attack. His uncle Gurey spoke out and told that he was at the Liido beach when the raid occurred. He said that he was denied to close the behind fence, which would are very difficult for the terrorists to enter he would close the high security fence.
Since the hotel owner, Gurey, was a critique to the president's recent deliberate ill-advised policy towards Somali nation , the suspicion that the reason behind the hotel's attack is likely being a base for government's opposition.
