Warsame was shot and killed by Al-Shabaab terrorists in Mogadishu, Somalia, in July 2014.
Her son, Harbi Hussein, who was born in New York however now lives in Minnesota, filed the case in Manhattan federal courtroom final week towards Dahabshiil, the most important cash-switch firm in Africa.
Dahabshiil has been accused of funding terrorism by permitting individuals to ship and obtain cash anonymously.
Warsame even wrote a track about Dahabshiil (whose identify means "gold smelter” in Somali) referred to as "Don’t Do Enterprise With The Blood Smelter.”
She moved to Minneapolis, Minn., within the early Nineteen Nineties, in the course of the Somali civil warfare, later returning to Mogadishu in 2012 to work as a member of parliament.
Hussein says his mom’s activist songs and powerful feminism made her a goal for terrorists.
"She was one of many few Somali feminine musicians to go on stage with out masking her head and she or he typically wore pants, which is uncommon for ladies in Somalia,” reads the lawsuit.
Hussein seeks unspecified damages.
