SOLDA Safety Network has submitted a comprehensive evidence-based report to the Government of Egypt detailing how Cairo has emerged as a key transit hub in human trafficking routes used to smuggle Somali migrants toward North Africa and Europe. According to the organization, the dossier contains testimonies, field intelligence, communication records, and documented trafficking patterns showing that Somali youth are routinely transported from Somalia to Egypt before being moved onward to Libya and other transit countries.

SOLDA Safety Network states that the report includes the identities of Somali and foreign traffickers believed to be coordinating recruitment, documentation, transportation, and payments within a transnational criminal network.

The organization has also established a special investigative committee to liaise directly with Egyptian authorities in order to support ongoing inquiries and share intelligence.

"We formally requested the Egyptian government to temporarily suspend the issuance of entry visas to Somali nationals while investigations are underway,” said the Director of SOLDA Safety Network. "Our findings indicate that this trafficking network is organized, well-financed, and protected by individuals connected to institutions inside Somalia.”

SOLDA Safety Network warns that the scale of abuse faced by Somali migrants has reached extreme levels. Thousands are currently believed to be detained in Libya, many subjected to torture, sexual violence, extortion, and forced labor. Thousands more have died during desert crossings or in the Mediterranean Sea.

Investigators say Cairo’s growing role as a transit point has made it easier for traffickers to move victims discreetly using forged or fraudulently obtained travel documents.

Human rights experts stress that dismantling these networks requires coordinated action between origin, transit, and destination countries, along with aggressive financial investigations targeting trafficking profits.

SOLDA Safety Network has urged Egypt, Somalia, and international partners to prioritize victim protection, criminal prosecutions, and cross-border intelligence sharing.

"The trafficking of Somali youth is one of the gravest human rights crimes of our time,” the organization said. "Silence and inaction only strengthen the criminals. Accountability must begin now.”
