Efforts by Somali ambassador to Qatar and elders are underway in Mogadishu to secure the release Mr Aweys from house arresting under deported to Doha where he’ll declare his decision to quit Alshabab and denounce violence.
Sheikh Hassan has been in Mogadishu secret jail since 2013 after he defected from Alshabab. Aweys has survived an assassination attempt organized by the slain Alshabab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane following a dispute over the group’s strategic and ideology about fighting against Somali government and African troops in the country.
Since US killed airstrike Ahmed Godane last September 2014, there have been many leaders who surrendered to Somali Government recently including Alshabab’s intelligence chief Zakariye Ismail Hersi and the leader of Alshabab wing in Gal-gala mountains in North-east Somalia Sheikh Atom.
