The journalists, who were attending a press conference organized by opposition leader Ali Mohamed Nuh in a Mogadishu hotel, were taken into custody for more than three hours before being released and subsequently ordered to report to the Somali Intelligence headquarters every Wednesday.
It appears that the only crime they have committed was to cover the opposition’s press conference.
Somali Independent Media House Association views this as great violation of press and media freedom which is unacceptable in any a democratic country.
"At this age and time, to arrest a Journalist for performing his duty, is unacceptable’’ said SIMHA chairman Hassan Ali Gesey.
"We call upon the Somali government to be respect the untouchable media freedom in the country,” He added.
On Friday the Somali government forces closed down Shabelle and Sky FM Radio stations in the capital Mogadishu for incitement related allegations.
