A Press Release by The National Reformist Caucus (TTQ) and MMQ Caucus
Mogadishu, February 10, 2015
The Somali parliamentary Caucuses TTQ and MMQ congratulate Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke and his Council of Ministers on obtaining from a majority of parliamentarians, the required confidence to form a government. We further wish the Prime Minister success in executing and completing the critical time-sensitive programs that require urgent attention and are also integral to the remaining transitional period.
TTQ and MMQ recognize and respect the outcome of the Parliamentary vote and will therefore work with the government of Prime Minister Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke by congratulating it when it rightly deserves and constructively criticizing it when it fails to implement its duty.
Members of the two caucuses have concerns on the future direction of Somalia and urge the government to accept the Parliamentary right to exercise its duty and ensure transparency of processes as parliamentarians through utilization of democratic parliamentary procedure.
The two Caucuses represent the people and aim to ensure that people have a direct say in the country's affairs. Hence the two Caucuses pledge to the Somali public that our members would serve as a loyal opposition, loyal to the Constitution of Somalia and loyal to the Somali nation, and are determined to protect the interest of the Somali people.
In that regard, the Caucuses recognize the long delay in the development agenda and will closely follow the progress of Vision 2016, the essential elements of the national critical and time-sensitive programs and will oversee the national institutional development plans hand in hand with the Parliamentary Committees.
Additionally, the caucuses will conduct public consultations with various sectors of society so that they can better be informed about the concerns of the average people in the country.
Finally, TTQ and MMQ thank the International Community for their support and engagement during these testing times and urges them to finally recognize the birth of democratization in Somalia.
