Waagacusub.net - These days there is an extensive and disturbing of politically motivated killings in Mogadishu.

The Damul-Jadiid military wing group (Ruhanta) had a shocking and sometimes brutally effective record of inhumane laws, harassment, and other oppression to terrorize, silence or otherwise neutralize opposition. The list of those who were assassinated is long, and they come from a wide political and mass media spectrum. Under specific focus here is the Damul Jadiid state's extra-parliamentary and permanent disposal of political opponents.

As political and historical events unfolded during last two years rule, so too did the extremes of the Ruhant's response. The Damul Jadiid Movement became so organized that they held courses for killers in several highly secret assassin legislatures, ministers, police and political leaders, and had access to vast and secretly budgeted funding to plot and carry out their bizarre projects.

Resistance to ruling movement (Damul-Jadiid) from within Mogadishu and overseas Somali diaspora grew tremendously in last three months, and effectively there was a low-grade civil war in progressing Somalia. This is regularly not confined to within its borders. Ruhanta agents and assassins traveled to Djibouti, Hargeisa, and Kampala, etc. in the frontline states, as well as reaching across the Somalia to kill or maim their opponents (especially legislatures and media personal) with a variety of ghastly methods. These ranged from car-bomb (Faisal and Rahino) and pistols to poisoning and brutal murder (more than 20 media staff).Later the term 'tribe-on-tribe violence' was coined by the Damul-Jadiid government to create division and mask the deathly work of their own Ruhanta agents.

In addition to the repression of critical voices inside Somali parliament, dissidents and real or perceived media critics at Mogadishu area and in neighboring cities like Kismayo, Baydhabo and Merka have been victims of attacks and threats.

The next article will highlight some of the cases involving attacks or threats against critics inside Mogadishu since the late 2005. This list is not exhaustive. Some Somali brave reporters has documented these cases or received reliable information indicating that the victims are likely to have been targeted because of their criticisms of the Damul-Jadiid government, the Ruhanta or President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. There have been other cases of Somalis who were murdered, attacked, threatened, or who died in unclear circumstances in various cities, but are not included because of insufficient information surrounding these attacks.

We are recording this history in both simple list form and expanded biographies. Our purpose is add to the work of and partner with organizations such as the SOJA , Somalia Diaspora, and the Somali civil societies organizations to break silences and enrich our understanding of the broader context of our reports to expose these criminals.
