The security forces detained suspects in what is being viewed as an attempt to curb the numerous attacks being mounted in Mogadishu, the country’s capital against military and civilian targets.Somalia’s Intellegence Agency’s Twitter feed said the suspects were using residential areas as bases to prep for attacks and mingle with residents to carry out the attacks in the capital Mogadishu.
The suspects who are being held in custody will be questioned with security officials hoping to get more information from them regarding the al Shabaab operations and network in Mogadishu.
Last week, six people were killed and 14 others injured in suicide car bomb attack at local government office in Mogadishu.The bomb attack was claimed by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group.
The group has been waging insurgency in Somalia for more than 10 years.However, Al-Shabaab, which once controlled much of Somali capital Mogadishu in 2011, wants topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.
The Government of the United Kingdom has issued new guidance to its citizens regarding travel to Somalia, stating that British passport holders are now required to obtain an Electronic Visa (E-Visa) prior to traveling to Mogadishu or any other part of Somalia. According to the advisory, E-Visas are mandatory for all travelers heading to Mogadishu, and even those transiting through or traveling to Hargeisa may be asked to present an entry visa at departure points.
