"Actor-Singer Qamar Abdillahi Harawa”
The general value of arts and culture to society has long been assumed.
Try to imagine Society without the humanizing influence of the arts, and you will have to strip out most of what is pleasurable in life, as well as much that is educationally critical and socially essential.
Life without the collective resources of our libraries, museums,
theatres and galleries, or without the personal expression of literature,
music and art, would be static and sterile; no creative arguments
about the past, no diverse and stimulating present and no dreams of
the future.
Of course the inherent value of arts and culture is, in part, a
philosophical assertion that can’t be measured in numbers.
Quantifying the benefits and expressing them in terms of facts and
figures that can evidence the contribution made to our collective and
individual lives has always presented a problem, but it is something
that arts and culture organizations will always have to do in order to
secure funding from both public and private sources.
Actors are storytellers, temporarily extinguishing our worries as they play out alternate realities on stage or screen. Sometimes a performer holds up a mirror, shining light on hidden societal sins, but often he or she helps us escape, reminding us of happier times or our greater human potential. With actors carrying our frustrations, fears, desires, and hopes, we can let go of the fight at least for a little while.
The role of the actor in society should not be underestimated. Although it’s easy to get caught up in celebrity and fame, the timeless function of the actor is to take on communal pain and provide catharsis, or emotional and spiritual purification, for every person in the audience. Actors are essential to the psychic health of our world.
The Somalis lost actor/singer Qamar Abdillahi Harawa far too soon. Possibly one of the most talented Somali actors of our time, Qamar had an incredible career; before she was put behind the bars of the medieval times notorious Turkey Jail. The jail which is treated the inmates as sub human, violent and human rights abuses. A third of top ten worst jails in the world in which inmates are forced shameful acts and never seen the sun again or never go out of that prison. Children are also locked up that prison for life and what is strange about this jail that children activists do not talk about that issue.
We wonder how the Waberi and other Somali actors - singers could forget and did not react for their famous sister and highly respected actor among all Somalis to remain in this middle ages jail with crime she did not commit. Qamar Abdillahi Harawa does not deserve to be in the worst place on earth.
Actors/Singers, media groups, lawyers are the icons and the face of modern civility and free mind of human existence. They are the developers of culture, language and defenders of personal rights and freedoms, informed you what’s new and around you. By locked up these people is shut off the human minds and mouths.
The Somali media started to campaign the freedom of Actor/Singer Qamar Abdillahi Harawa from this unimaginable and unthinkable jail in Turkey. May be the top leaders of Turkey do not know the value of this character or may be never informed them by Somali Officials in Turkey.
Though Somali tribal fabric is broken and people’s thinking and commonality disintegrated due to many outside hands and interest groups in their affairs but still the Somali pride is high and never goes down to the sand. Our actor/singers are our guardian of Somali language, culture and god willingly we protect them with our small capacity.
Remember: God helps those who help themselves
