    The first solar-powered street lamps are going up in Baidoa.

    These solar streetlights are the first modern infrastructure development seen in over two decades. Baidoa is coined the "City of Death" and today there are signs it is awakening from the darkness brought by civil war.

These solar streetlights are the first modern infrastructure development seen in over two decades. Baidoa is coined the "City of Death" and today there are signs it is awakening from the darkness brought by civil war.
Baidoa District Administration, Mayor Hassan Moallin Ahmed (Biikalo) said The lighting system is donated by the Norwegian government and has been a great support to the progress of the city and the region at large.
Mr. Biikalo added that these lights are intended to support the economy and security of Baidoa and the government is appreciative and welcoming of the new development. He also reinforced the need for more solar lights, road rehabilitation and increasing of water resource development.
