A photograph posted on Facebook by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) has sparked widespread debate among Somalis online, with many social media users claiming it signals an imminent trip abroad — including allegations that he may travel to Israel.
However, open-source assessment of the aircraft visible in the image indicates the helicopter is Swiss-registered and appears to be a VIP charter aircraft, meaning it is typically available for private rental and executive transport.
The helicopter visible in the photo carries a Swiss registration prefix "HB”, a designation reserved for aircraft registered in Switzerland. The markings in the image correspond to registration number:
Registration: HB-ZYI
Country of Registration: Switzerland (HB prefix)
Aircraft Type / Model: Bell 429 GlobalRanger (B429)
Use Category: VIP/private charter helicopter (commonly rented)
Aviation analysts note that the Bell 429 is widely used for executive charter, high-profile conference mobility, and airport-to-city transfers, particularly in Switzerland and other parts of Europe.
The setting shown in the photograph strongly resembles an airport apron (ramp) — the area of an airport where aircraft are parked, serviced and prepared for departure.
While the photo alone does not show readable airport signage to confirm the exact airport, the Swiss registration of the helicopter strongly suggests the image was taken inside Switzerland or in an airport environment where Swiss charter helicopters commonly operate.
Online speculation has linked the post to Davos, the Swiss mountain town associated with major international conferences and VIP movements. However, this cannot be independently confirmed based on the posted image alone.
Following the Facebook post, Somali social media platforms circulated narratives suggesting that President Cirro may be preparing for international travel, with some users claiming he could be heading to Israel.
At present, there is no official announcement confirming any planned trip to Israel, and the image itself provides no direct evidence regarding the destination or political nature of any travel.
In addition to the Israel-related travel rumours, some online posts have also claimed that Abdirahman Cirro may have been placed on alleged "wanted” or "security watch” lists, accusing him of representing a threat to the security of Muslim countries.
No official documentation or credible public record has been produced to support these claims. Intelligence monitoring categorises these allegations as unverified and potentially linked to political information warfare.
This OSINT-based analysis concludes:
The aircraft shown in President Cirro’s Facebook photo is a Swiss-registered helicopter (HB-ZYI).
It is a Bell 429, a model commonly used as a VIP charter aircraft and available for rental.
The photo appears to have been taken at an airport apron, consistent with charter operations.
Claims of travel to Israel remain unconfirmed, and there is no evidence in the image proving a specific destination.
Claims that Cirro has entered security "wanted lists” are unverified and currently lack credible sources.
