Al Shabab rebels branch in Puntland has denied that its fighters were defeated in recent attack by the Puntland forces.

Al Shabab rebels branch in Puntland has denied that its fighters were defeated in recent attack by the Puntland forces. Sheikh Abdukadir Mumin whose base is in Galgala mountains of Bari region has claimed that the militants repulsed massive attack by the Puntland forces on Saturday.

Sheikh Mumin also claimed that more than ten Puntland's security forces were killed in the attack as he said, the whole area was still under their control.

"The mujahiden knew of the attack and we were prepared for them." he has justified saying that Al Shabab's branch in the northeastern were still there.

On Saturday the Puntland Deputy Security Minister said three militants were killed in the assault by the security forces and that the mountainous range of Golis southwest of Bosaso was under the forces' control.
