For seen demonstrations this coming weekend

Over the last few days several social media outlets in Ethiopia have announced demonstrations in Oromiya, Bahir Dar and Dire Dawa for this coming weekend of August 6-7.

We have no confirmation from reliable sources so far. We expect traffic restrictions on main roads outside the capital and road closures. We have no information indicating any specific risks for foreigners in Ethiopia or any demonstrations in Addis Ababa. However, as a matter of precaution, we would like to remind everyone to avoid crowds and demonstrations. Please keep yourself informed by your counterpart in the field or travel organisation of the local situation when traveling in Ethiopia.

The situation in the populous state, home to the Oromo people, remains tense and volatile. In the last two days, embassies of the United States, Norway and the United Nations office in Ethiopia have all issued travel warnings for the weekend. Full Article
