Officials stressed that the port will be a game-changer for the region — unlocking economic growth, job creation, and transforming Hobyo into a strategic maritime hub connected to international markets.
Hobyo’s location on the Indian Ocean gives it significant strategic value. Its proximity to the Middle East, Asia, and East Africa positions it as a vital gateway for trade and logistics. Once completed, the port will be able to compete with regional ports such as Berbera, Djibouti, and Mombasa.
The port project will include:
A cargo docking and handling area
Modern road links to inland regions
Customs facilities, warehouses, and container storage zones
