Editorial Statute – Waagacusub Media

1. Introduction

Waagacusub Media is an independent investigative journalism platform established in 2003 by Dahir Abdulle Alasow, headquartered in Breda, the Netherlands.
The organization operates as an autonomous media outlet committed to the public interest, press freedom, and the ethical principles of independent journalism.

Since its founding, Waagacusub Media has published investigative reports on corruption, human rights violations, political affairs, terrorism, and social justice across Somalia, the Horn of Africa, and the global Somali diaspora.


2. Mission and Objectives

The editorial mission of Waagacusub Media is to:

  • Promote truth, accountability, and transparency in governance and society.

  • Uphold the freedom of expression and defend the rights of journalists.

  • Provide a reliable platform for investigative journalism and public-interest reporting.

  • Give a voice to marginalized and oppressed communities.

  • Contribute to peace, justice, and democratic values through factual reporting.


3. Editorial Independence

Waagacusub Media operates independently from political parties, governments, religious institutions, or commercial interests.
Editorial decisions are made exclusively by the newsroom and editorial board based on journalistic merit and relevance to the public interest.

No external party—whether governmental, political, or financial—has authority to influence, alter, or suppress any editorial content.
This independence guarantees credibility, impartiality, and trust in all published materials.


4. Ethical Principles

All journalists, editors, and contributors of Waagacusub Media adhere to:

  • The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) Global Charter of Ethics for Journalists.

  • The NVJ Code of Conduct on accuracy, fairness, and integrity.

  • The obligation to verify facts and ensure balanced reporting.

  • Respect for privacy, human dignity, and the presumption of innocence.

Journalists must avoid conflicts of interest, political bias, and any form of hate speech or discrimination.
