Godane has been part of the company when it was operating under the name of Al-Barakat 14 years ago, but recent evidence shows that he owns 9% of the company’s shares. Insiders say that the shares have been allocated to him in 2012 following an email he sent to the management. "Telesom and two other companies in Somaliland used to give Godane monthly and annual payments, and that is why the Zaad service (MMT) is stil operating in Somaliland” said one of the company officials.
Telesom is the largest telecommunication company in Somaliland, and has a good reputation in providing large network of telephone service, with poor and expensive internet service. It is also a source of income for hundreds of people, and shareholders.
Telesom Somaliland’s CEO is a Canadian-Somali national Abdikarim Mohamed Eid who hails from Isaaq clan, Iidagaleh sub-clan. Abdikarim’s brother is the plaintiff who filed the infamous lawsuit against former Somali Vice President General Mohamed Ali Samatar in US. He has been a member of the Al- Itihad extremists. Abdikarim provided the cost of the lawsuit against Gen. Samatar. The CEO is quiet man, just like Godane who doesn’t talk much, but it is not known whether believes extremism.

Western Intelligence Agencies Oppose the Democratization of Somalia Intelligence Services (NISA) History documents the strong character of the Somali people associated with messy democratic rule that cherishes individual liberty, freedom of expression and opinion, Justice, and private entrepreneurship rather than with autocratic rule. British explorer, Sir Richard Burton wrote in 1856, "the Somalis are fierce race of republicans, constantly changing political loyalties – the Somalis lived in what amounted to a state of chronic, political schizophrenia, verging on of anarchy. Every freeborn man holds equal to his ruler and allows no loyalties or prerogatives to abridge his birthright of liberty." However, Somalis are docile to discipline and obedience if social mediation applied fairly. The appropriate model of government for Somalia is the democratic rule. Full Article
