Instead of attacking terrorist stronghold the planes assaulted the regional government military forces allied to the internationally supported government.
The incident took place in Mudug region of Central Somalia where the terrorist group Al-Shabaab have no presence at all.
Those killed and wounded are Somalia's Galmudug State forces assigned to fight terrorist.
The US war planes were getting faulty report from the regional State of Puntland which had vowed for the Elimination of Galmudug State and size their land.
The killing of regional troops is recipe for a renewed violence between the two neighboring regional states and may trash the value of US troops as a neutral force that is solely fighting terrorism.
The number of the soldiers killed by the air raid is 16 while the wounded are 33.
Also military equipment consisting vehicles and assorted weapons were destroyed. The move was welcomed by Al-Shabaab terrorist group and the regional state of Puntland that gave the wrong information to the US troops.
Military commanders, politicians and clan elders in Galmudug are discussing what to do about the massacre of their troops.
The US unwarranted attack in Galmudug prompted a masiive demonstration in south Galkayo where the angry youth burned the American flag.
Galkayo is the major city in central region and is known as the hotbed of Somalia.
