According to police, the two suspects (One of them disguised as a woman) were trailed from Entebbe International Airport by Police’s Counter Terrorism Police and they were arrested at Forest Mall in Kampala.
When contacted on the matter, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango confirmed the reports but declined to divulge more information since the suspects were still being interrogated. He said police is still going on with the investigations.
"I can confirm that Police under our Counter Terrorism Department this morning arrested two people suspected to be terrorists at Forest Mall in Kampala but I cannot give any more details since they are still undergoing interrogation,” Mr Onyango said.
This comes barely a day after the U.S embassy issued a statement warning its citizens planning to travel through Entebbe International air port about the likely terror attacks on the airport and Parliament of Uganda.
"The US Embassy has received information from the Uganda Police Force that according to intelligence sources, there is a specific threat to attack Entebbe International Airport by an unknown terrorist group today, July 3… Individuals planning to travel through the airport this evening may want to review their plans in light of this information,” the advisory said in part.
On Thursday Ms Polly Namaye, the deputy police spokesperson said they had received intelligence reports, which they passed on to the US Embassy, that an unknown terrorist group would attack the airport between 9pm. to midnight.
