Who should investigate when almost all, but a few politicians want to enrich themselves while they are in the public office? Auditor general does, of course.
Mohamed Hayir Maareeye, The Minister of Information of Somalia, became one of the most corrupted Somali politicians that have ever seen.
"We received a complaint letter which says Minister Maareeye transferred an amount of $55, 000 of the satellite fees plus $85,000 from SNTV adds to his account," said Nur Farah, Somalia's auditor general.
Mr Farah said that he went to the Director of Finance at Ministry of Information Hassan Samatar also known as Hassan Bassal where he received a copy of his bank accounts document.
Given the nature of the deposits in this account, we found out the an amount of $55, 000 of the satellite fees plus $85,000 received from the Somali National TV's three months adds, which has been transferred to the Minister's personal account in Dahabshiil, said the auditor general, adding that they finally withdrew the cash from Mr Maareeye's Dahabshiil account to Central Bank."
According to six officials in the Somali Ministry of Information, Minister Maareeye directed the cash into his bank accounts instead of the Central bank.
Hassan Samatar, who hails from the same clan of Minister Maareeye was appointed Director of Finance at Ministry of Information so that they would be able to steal as much as possible without anyone's knowledge.
However, It's the first time that Mr Maareeye was caught on heavily involving the theft of the national property.
