It is very sad that Gal-Mudug, which was the place where the forces of the Islam courts stopped and defeated; and a member of the six institutions that established the current federal government of Somalia, is now beginning to experience Al-shabaab and warlord coalition. Three looming situation is shading Gal-Mudug people now, which needs the attention and assistance of international community and everybody that concerns.

  • Warlord Qaybdid brought shipment of arms to Gal-Mudug from Mogadishu and Elbur. We know the number of technical brought but we did now the amount of ammunitions. There are 10 technical four ZU23, four DSHK & two ZKU. Seven of them were brought from Mogadishu to Gal-Mudug via land through Al-shabaab held territory and the three technical from Elbur. As was indicated in the UN monitoring group report last year, the relation between Al-shabaab and warlord Qaybdiid was in existence for quite some time. In addition, Al-shabaab in Elbur area wants to disburse their forces before the expected Ethiopian forces reach the area; to disguise some of their forces as Gal-Mudug forces in exchange of supporting Qaybdiid militarily.

  • Likewise, Qaybdid brought oil Exploration Company in Gal-Mudug such GTC GLOBAL; this company is ignite clan conflicts since majority of the clans did not support Qaybdiid. We informed the company this issue and the company stopped involve Gal-Mudug issue. Later on, the company began its interference due to the interference of the federal Minster of security.

  • The federal minster of security also deviated the course of the traditional elders meeting which was supposed to settle Gal-Mudug political problem and prepare the upcoming central regions conference for establishing a regional state for the area. The reason the minster interfered is that if Qaydiid lost Gal-Mudug the minster will also lose his interest in Galmudug.

  • The Al-shabaab leader has direct contacts with thewarlord Qaybdiid such Godane and Fuad Shangole are currently in Harardheer waiting conduction. The warlord sent seven technical of his loyalists to Hobyo to secure the conveyance operation.

To that reason, we are appealing and informing the Somali people and the members of the international community to interfere and stop Al-shabaab-warlord alliance now strengthening in Gal-Mudug and the wicked inference of federal security minster in the internal affairs of Gal-Mudug.

Hassan Ali Gurey
