The late Yusuf Hajji is widely celebrated not only as a national security leader but as a bridge-builder who ensured Somali citizens in Kenya were treated with equality, respect, and full economic participation.
During difficult decades marked by discrimination and political pressure against communities in Northern Kenya, Yusuf Hajji played a critical role in ensuring:
Freedom of movement for Somali traders
Equal business opportunities
Integration of the Somali community into government institutions
Peace and dialogue during inter-communal tensions
By naming the new high school after him, the Kenyan government acknowledges a man whose leadership strengthened trust between the government and the Somali community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Senator Abdul Yusuf Hajji, son of the late Yusuf Hajji, praised the government’s recognition of his father’s lifetime of service and expressed hope that the school will inspire future generations:
"This institution will carry forward the values my father stood for — unity, education, peace, and opportunity for all.”
The opening of Yusuf Hajji High School is viewed as:
